The John Moncrief eXperience
John Moncrief is best described as a
Songwriter, Activist & Entrepreneur
His eXperience is an extension of
these three attributes in his life journey
It all began over 30 years ago when he
started writing songs for a Hip Hop duo
called WeUsI (meaning Black in
Kiswahili), better known as We-Us-I
At that time, John was also part of a
Youth Collective known as the Los
Angeles African Youth Council (LAAYC)
that was heavily involved in the Free
South Africa movement associated with
Randall Robinson’s TransAfrica
Organization.
The LAAYC consisted of high school &
college students who sought to
educate themselves relative to the
cultural revolution of consciousness
taking place in the late 1980’s to early
1990’s.
In that period, John participated in a
multitude of rallies, demonstrations &
protests emphasizing a positive change
of the mentality of a generation and the
actions necessary to influence both
curriculum & policies locally and on a
national level.
It was then that the spark of creating
musical anthems of protest was born,
giving a voice to the voiceless thru Hip
Hop with the song “Reparations” – The
Big Payback.
As time would pass, and John matured
he became an entrepreneur who
travelled throughout America and
Europe, eventually emigrating to the
European Union where he now resides.
After witnessing the senseless murder
of George Floyd and others on camera
at the hands of American police, John
has now returned to his songwriting
roots.
The 2022 anthem “Breathe” – Get Your
Foot off My Neck marks the resurrection of the John Moncrief
eXperience EP project
It is with the passion of righteous
indignation fueled by the Rodney King
beating in 1991, up to and including the
murder of George Floyd in 2020 (and
the countless other innocent Black lives
lost from American law enforcement
officers before, during, and after 30
years) that influences the lyrical
bombast of the John Moncrief
eXperience
As we prepare to celebrate the 50th
anniversary of Hip Hop Culture in 2023
along with the ongoing digital revolution in technological advances, the John
Moncrief eXperience re-emerges with
new music for an old problem in the
form of police brutality
The objective is to raise awareness in
agitation for change of outdated
policies. The method is the utilization of
music as a weapon against oppression.
The goal is to return the power of
communities back to the people
through education, grassroots political
organization, and creating opportunities
for the youth of tomorrow, today…

eXperience?
This is more than just another Social
Experiment…
